The Four A's is a nonprofit AIDS service organization that was established in 1985 as a volunteer help-line in Anchorage. Four A's was the first organization in Alaska dedicated to responding to the illness we now call HIV/AIDS. Four A's has served our community for over 20-years. As the face of AIDS has changed, Four A's has grown to meet the constantly changing needs of clients and has expanded its prevention activities.
Today, Four A's is guided by a 20 member, volunteer Board of Directors, staffed with nearly 20 full and part-time employees, assisted by over 80 volunteers and enabled by the generosity of over 5000 donors in carrying out its mission. The Four A’s provides services to our community in two core areas; (1) services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families, and (2) eliminating the transmission of HIV and its stigma. Annually, Four A's provides services to over 300 individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The core service provided is Case Management. Case Management services takes stock of an individual’s resources and their needs and determines the gaps between them. Other services provided include but are not limited to medical, medications, housing, mental health and substance abuse counseling, nutrition, vision, dental, and transportation.
The second core area of service is education and prevention. Four A’s implements Center for Disease Control (CDC) approved programs that target high risk populations (i.e. intravenous drug users, ethnic minorities, women, men who have sex with men, youth). In addition, we host community wide events like World AIDS Day or National HIV Testing Week. Other community wide programs include free HIV testing, HIV 411 classes, statewide helpline and safe sex kit distribution. We also host the only syringe exchange program in Anchorage. Our prevention efforts reach tens of thousands annually.
HIV can infect anyone. HIV/AIDS affects everyone.
