About Us

The Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association (Four A's) was established in 1985 as a support organization for those living with HIV/AIDS. Four A's was the first organization in Alaska dedicated to responding to the illness we now call HIV/AIDS. As the face of AIDS has changed, Four A's has grown to meet the constantly changing needs of clients and has expanded its prevention activities. Over the years, the Four A's has grown into the state's leading HIV/AIDS focused agency serving 91% of the state in two core areas: 1) supportive services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families, and 2) HIV prevention and education.

Four A's utilizes a comprehensive case management approach to meet client needs. Annually, service is provided to more than 250 individuals living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The services provided by Four A’s staff help clients maximize their resources and provide the support necessary to ensure their needs are met. The goal is to empower the individual to reach the highest level of self-sufficiency possible. Client services include assistance with navigating the healthcare system through intensive and mobile case management. We assist clients with medical, dental, and vision needs, as well as payment for medications and insurance. We also help with basic needs like day-care assistance, employment, drug and alcohol counseling, transportation, mental health services, housing, and nutrition that are key to a healthy, productive life.

The HIV prevention and education services provided by the Four A's reaches tens of thousands of Alaskans. This work is accomplished through utilization of a multidisciplinary approach to reduce HIV transmission and stigma. Prevention efforts focus on outreach to high risk groups through free Rapid HIV testing, a syringe exchange program, distribution of safe sex kits, and street outreach. In addition, the Four A's has an extensive history of partnering with community service organizations that provide assistance to those most at risk for HIV/AIDS. To increase community awareness of HIV, the Four A's conducts HIV education classes and broad awareness campaigns, as well as celebrations of World AIDS Day and National HIV Testing Day.
HIV can infect anyone. HIV/AIDS affects everyone.
